A Mind Forever Voyaging (AMFV) - Fiction Game

A Mind Forever Voyaging (AMFV) was published by Infocom which is an interactive fiction game. It was designed and implemented by Steve Meretzky. Infocom is the developer for this game. It was released on August 14, 1985 and November 22, 1985. It is available in single player mode. The name is taken form the book three of The Prelude by William Wordsworth.

The story begins in the world of 2031, where the world is on the brink of chaos. In this story you will be a prism, the world’s first sentient machine. At that time for decades the economy of the United States of North America (UNSA) has been stagnating. Great number of youths are turning to “Joybooths” and committing suicide by over stimulation. Joybooth is a device which directly stimulates the sensory input of the brain. Causing extreme overpopulation and poverty the calcuttization of the Third World has almost reached its limit. The Government and industry leaders have developed a plan to reverse this critical situation.  The plan is to combine the economic freedom and strong moral values of the 1950s with technical advancements of the 21st centaury.

The player is placed in simulation mode if he reaches the optimum ending and sent to live out the rest of his life in the year 2091. The plan was apparently was one of pacifism and social welfare-statism.  Greece and Guatemala are considered anti-American nations along with North Korea and Albania in the fictional year 2031 and the black dominated South African government faces attacks from a racial white terrorist group called WIZO.

The game has 178 locations and is a difficulty rating of “Advanced”. AMFV is the first Infocom game with the “oops” command in which a typographical error in a previous command could be re-written without re-tying the entire command.
